We Already Have Publicly Funded Pathology, Why is Tahitanga Needed?

  • Long wait times that impacts health negatively:  Due to the poor function and lack of staff retention of many clinical pathology labs, some have had to shut their doors permanently.  The amazing staff that are still present, are under immense pressure and drastically under paid in the public sector.

  • Our public pathology sector is privately owned without regulations.  Profits are given to share holders, not back into the care of equipment, improved and up-to -date testing, training or equal pay.  There is no plan currently in place to change this trajectory in the near future.

  • Paid wages are around 25-30% less for those who process public pathology tests.  This has resulted in a huge exodus of highly qualified and trained employees that seek employment elsewhere, many times out of the sector not to mention 18 days of strikes in 18 months  and the consequences that go along with them.

  • Clinical Pathology offers a vast opportunity in state-of-the-art diagnostics, prevention medicine and treatment protocols.  The more contracted and pressurised the sector becomes, the less advanced care grows, impacting our potential to save lives and improve our communities quality of life.

Tahitanga seeks to support the sector through the changes that are to come.  We also hope to set an example of how communities can redirect excellent care and profit back into our communities for every person and future generations.

Clinical Pathology In New Zealand

NO Pathology Means NO Healthcare (this is not a dramatic statement!)

A Forgotten and Poorly Respected Essential Health Service

What is Clinical Pathology?

Clinical pathology is a medical specialty that involves analysing bodily fluids and tissues to diagnose, treat, and prevent disease.  Clinical Pathology is used in 70% of diagnoses of disease in allopathic medicine and 100% of cancer diagnoses.

Clinical pathology is at the core of all healthcare.  Without it, our public healthcare is hindered at the cost of everyone’s health with far reaching, detrimental consequences.

Clinical pathology is in CRISIS of COLLAPSE!

Clinical pathology not only serves an irreplaceable value in allopathic medicine, it serves a huge advantage to many integrative therapies and preventative medicine.

Clinical pathology exponentially improves patient outcomes in all aspects of diagnostics, treatment and prevention.

Due to the nature of discourse in New Zealand’s Clinical Pathology sector, we have discovered an incredible range of professionals willing to put their energy, expertise and passion to change the current state.  Health New Zealand is currently going through some very tough and challenging times to figure out how to make a better future.

Tahitanga is working closely with these experts and with the government changes that are coming. We are committed to keeping the education of medical and health sciences growing in the best possible way.  However, we know it will take an extreme amount of time, policy writing and a complete restructure of public pathology and healthcare to begin to change our current course of extremely strained pathology services. Tahitanga wants to help support not only our local communities, but set an example of how we can have Clinical Pathology united with integrative medicine for the highest quality of care.  New Zealand's public pathology and healthcare need us to help guide the change we wish to see.  Tahitanga has set forth the path for efficient, effective state-of-the-art care for everyone in our community, supported by our community.   We will support our country in any way we can to bring a more cohesive approach to the much needed changes of our public healthcare while focusing on our community first. Our past pathology direction has been determined by people with little pathology knowledge, and of late, not one Clinical Pathology Scientist.

Tahitanga is founded on a not-for-profit, community trust model.  Not only does that hold spending accountable to everyone and allow access to everyone in the community, but also eliminates corporate profit building and gives it all back to the community that supports it.

Someone needs to make a change.  Tahitanga offers an incredible opportunity to do just that.  We would love to hear any ideas, so please do not hesitate to call us!

If you want to know more of how we got here, here is a link to an article that explains so much of the history and how pathology is now.  Please take a moment, you very possibly might be shocked!!
